Rachel Mahon

Rachel Mahon is a renowned concert organist and theDirector of Music at Coventry Cathedral. With an international presence, Rachelcaptivates audiences worldwide with her exceptional musical talent and passionfor the organ. ​As Director of Music at Coventry Cathedral, Rachelis responsible for training and conducting the Cathedral Choir and running themusic programme and since January 2022, she has been Conductor of the CoventryCathedral Chorus, a concert choir which performs large repertoire including anannual Messiah. Prior to arriving at Coventry Cathedral as Assistant Directorof Music in 2018, she was Organ Scholar at St Paul’s Cathedral – the firstfemale organist in the cathedral’s 1400-year history - and subsequentlyAssistant Organist at Chester Cathedral.

 

​She combines life as a Cathedral musician with abusy international recital schedule, touring as soloist and as part ofOrganized Crime Duo. In 2024 she performed in Australia, the UK, Germany,Austria and Canada and in 2025 she’ll be performing in the USA, Sweden, Germanyand Norway, as well as the UK. Rachel has appeared on radio as performer andpresenter, accompanying the BBC Singers in Choral Evensong and presentingInside Music on BBC Radio 3 and This Is My Music on CBC radio. Funded by agrant awarded by the Canada Council for the Arts, Rachel's debut solo album,featuring all Canadian music on the organ of Coventry Cathedral, was releasedto excellent reviews - it received five stars in Choir and Organ Magazine andwas Gramophone Magazine Editor's Choice in March 2020.

 

Rachel has won numerous awards and competitions inCanada, including a graduating scholarship from the Faculty of Music,University of Toronto and the Godfrey Hewitt Memorial Scholarship from theRoyal Canadian College of Organists. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree inOrgan Performance from the University of Toronto, and has studied with JohnTuttle and Henry Fairs.

 

In 2012, Rachel and fellow organist Sarah Svendsenfounded the duo Organized Crime and the two organists aim to entertainaudiences with their music and crazy antics. The pair have toured across Canadamany times and performed in the opening concert of the Montreal Orga
